Sexy VideoGameLand: Sick Graphics, Brah

I think that the market for modern warfare/future warfare style games will become saturated quickly.  With Call of Duty 4, and Modern Warfare 2 (I can only speak for myself) there was a certain novelty to exploring post 9/11 warfare.  The generations that have been immersed in video games have never really contended with full scale war either.  War is probably the biggest of spectacles (even with a great deal of death and destruction involved) and for gamers there is a morbid curiosity with it.  Not as much to act it out, but to explore something that that looms with a great deal of dread for our parents and grand parents.  We want to understand in some way what that means.  That doesn’t mean these games are accurate depictions of war in the least.  But they effectively tap into that curiosity, whether a gamer consciously admits it or not.  I’m sure there are some out there that are thrilled by the violence and bloodshed, but Modern Warfare 2’s incredible success couldn’t just be based on that sentiment.  That sort of success isn’t sustainable based on circumstantial curiosity alone.  Or at least that’s my thought on the matter.
